casting director/company director – Her career began in 93, working with Kylie and Danni Minogue’s Management team, spending a lot of time opening creepy fan mail. She moved over to casting a year later and quickly established herself as a leading casting Director in Melbourne. Having worked at both Chameleon and Mullinars on various film, television and commercial projects, she decided in 2006 that it was time to take the leap and open the doors to her own company. She prides herself on getting to know a director’s work and really connecting with the creative needs of a casting brief whilst still balancing the financial demands of a producer’s budget. Mel believes the ability to make actors feel safe and comfortable in what can be a confronting environment is a paramount skill for a Casting Director to elicit quality performances in screen tests. She believes auditions are a collaborative process and when actors know a Casting Director is championing for them in the room, they are free to explore and play, therefore delivering the greatest results.
casting associate – Chloe has been part of the team casually since we opened, helping us between her travels and life adventures. It was in 2015 she decided to lay down her (highly fashionable, purchased in Prague) hat and we jumped at the chance to have her join us as a full time Casting Associate. She has seen everything from child stars, hairy biker men, contortionists to famous celebrities walk into the studios, taking it all in her stride. She thrives on the casting challenge and excitement of working on ever changing briefs and the unpredictability of what tomorrow’s project may bring. She has recently cast some great projects including online content for our successful ‘Girls Make Your Move’ campaign. She doesn’t pitch in much during our office sing-offs, but the girl can dance so we’ve decided to keep her.
casting associate – Alexa moved from Brisbane to Melbourne to follow her dreams of working in film and television and joined Mackintosh Casting before she’d even finished unpacking her suitcase. She has a great enthusiasm for all things production and has worked in many areas on set and behind the scenes. However, her greatest passion still lies within the casting room. She is willing to jump into any task, including often stepping in as a reader for actors to work opposite. She also has a great knack of keeping everyone up-beat on a busy casting day which usually means you’ll hear her belting out impromptu songs from the Les Mis soundtrack. Word perfect. Pitch, not so much.
